So i was a temp to hire back in February, officially hired in june. I dislike this job intensely but it is a small company with only 3 cust. service reps. Me being one of them. I already made plans as of last year for the month of September and i only intended to keep the job for until then. I didn’t realize how much training and time would be put into this position and I feel horrible for having to quit. I dislike this job it is completely unrelated to my career goals. I also want to do something related to what I majored in and this is def. not it. I thought about telling them that an offer or an internship came up but I don’t really have anything lined up. How do I quit, I know I have to let them know by the first week of August because I have to be out of there by the first of Sept. What do I say? I don’t even know if they would give me the option of coming back in oct. if i told them that it was for an internship, but I don’t even know if I would want to, sometimes this job makes me feel so stressed out that it’s apparent in every way possible. I really never gave them any indication that I didn’t want the job so I can’t say it’s just not working out. Please help!!!!

submit a letter of resignation explaining that this job is not conducive to your career goals. offer to stay on until a replacement is found or offer to train your replacement. but what will you do after this job? i really think you should have something else lined up before you commit to quitting. it’s a tough job market out there. you might discover after searching that it might be a wiser choice to hang on to this job until you are able to find something else. if you want to find a good internship you have to be open to travel. some internships have options. for example, i took an internship in Washington D.C. that had 2 options, either you can come on as an unpaid intern and receive college credit or accept a position that was paid but didn’t provide college credit. either way you have something nice to put on your resume.

How long before I should quit my job?

I am 17 years old and I have 2 jobs right now. One of my jobs, I work at a house for mentally challenged people and I love this job. I work every other weekend friday through monday, 10pm-2pm the next day and it is really easy, it is about 42 hours a week and I make about $700 a month just on that job. My second job I work at a grocery store in the produce department, and I really hate this job a lot I have been there about 3 months. I work about 15-30 hours a week and that’s not so bad, but I hate my bosses they barely trained me and I get yelled at for every little thing I do that I didn’t even know about and i am getting sick of it, also the other people I work with are not so friendly to me like if i am working by myself they will give me a hard time about how I work and they will literally take me in the back and yell at me at the top of their lungs. I just wanna know if I quit now, would that look bad if I try and get another job. Or is quitting because i have 2 jobs reason enough?

It will not look bad, you shouldn’t be treated badly because of the managements issues. They should have trained you correctly. The other workers there are supposed to be friendly, and they really have no right to yell at you. They should sit down with you, and tell you what you’re doing wrong and what you should do, resolving the issue nicely. Anyway, quiting won’t look bad, tell them You appreciate the chance to work there but you’re quiting because you are working another job. Also, if the new place you are trying to get a job at contacts the grocery store, legally they aren’t allowed to give you a bad reference. And plus, if you’re constantly being yelled at theres a good chance you could get fired, and quiting looks way better than being fired.

I had to quit my job without two weeks notice…?

so i worked overnight at target for the past 8 months and everything was fine until recent budget cuts caused them to switch to a 4AM shift. that meant i had to wake up at 3 to get to work on time, go to school rght after at 10am, do my homework at 5pm andgo straight to sleep at 7. on top of this once june came around there were several deaths in my family and i had four extra people staying in my house, and up at all hours.

before this i had never had a write up, never been reprimanded. in the space of two weeks i got two write ups (one for clocking in two minutes early from lunch, and one for clocking out two minutes late) leaving me at my final warning. after about a week of running on less than two hours sleep a night i was edgy, weary and relativly disturbed that people were dropping dead like flies.

so i show up to work, work hard all shift, and a half hour before i have to clock out, i ask my boss the time because i didnt have a watch. he said not to worry because he would tell me when i have to go. a while later i came up to him and asked if it was getting to be that time, and he literaly looked at his watch, smiled, and said i had to clock out eight minutes ago.

that basicaly meant that i broke scheduling regulations and would get a third write up (get fired). the whole thing ended up becoming an argument where a asked him why he didnt tell me, and him shouting at me that it was my responsibility. that caused me to (not yell but talk loud bak) and then he kicked me out of his office and said he didnt have to deal with this. this was the only time we had ever had any kind of disagreement like this. (he even told me how hard a worker i was amidst his accusations of me trying to blame the whole thing on him: i was just mad he didnt do like he said he would and tell me when i ha to leave)

well, i was tired like i said, and got scared that being fired would look worse than quiting, so i went to the store manager and quit then and there. they seemed to understand, but when i tried to express my misgivings about my boss, they grew stonefaced and started spouting regulations, not even taking into account his reactions or human error.

was i wrong to quit; should i just have let them fire me? should i write a letter of apology to my boss in spite of the was he acted? should i just leave this off my resume altogether?
no target does not openly display clocks. they do have times on their computers and on their PDAs but i was stocking in stationary which is pretty far from both.

and yeah i probably shouldnt have quit, im having a horrible time finding a job because most employers see that as me just up and leaving. ie target doesnt waste time to explain the situation on my behalf, but why should they? they are a multi-billion corporation. im just some minimum wage student they hired on for the christmas rush and let stay on…

You were there too long to not have it on your resume. Sorry.
In retrospect, you should have just let him fire you, but hindsight is 20/20.
You do not have to apologize for the way you acted.

How do I quit my job? I haven’t been there very long?

Here’s the situation: I am a college student, I am taking 3 classes right now (15 weeks crammed into 6) and have two jobs. Financially, I really don’t need a job at all. I love the one. Great management, great coworkers, awesome money. I actually enjoy being there and want to go in-this one is at a restaurant. The other job is in retail and the management is absolutely awful, the pay is minimum wage, and my coworkers are lazy. I asked to only work one weekend morning there (I work 3 or 4 days a week at the restaurant) and they scheduled me this weekend for two days. I wouldn’t be that upset about it, except that its this huge arts festival here, and I work M-Thurs and Sunday and Monday at the restaurant (six days), then Saturday and Sunday morning at the store. The problem is I have 6 friends coming in Thursday night until Sunday afternoon and can’t get in and out of my apartment without me there. I started working at the store about a month and a half ago and got the job through my aunt so I can’t leave distastefully. Can someone help me? I emailed my boss about how I was on the schedule two days, and he pretty much said everyone is making sacrifices and most of the staff is working 6 days this week. I understand they need help for arts fest but he and I talked numerous times about how I can only work one weekend morning, including that weekend. I know this may sound petty that I am only asking for one day a week, but this place is miserable and as of now I do work 5 days a week and am a full time student. Please help me!
mind you I have had requests in writing about this weekend, and all others for two weeks now. he stated that he was aware of this in all conversations and was fully compliant to what I was asking.

just be truthful and let your boss know the situation he should understand and so that if you need that job back in the future you could always go back. don’t ever burn your bridges.

How to quit my current job after finding a new one?

I’ve been at my current job for 5 months and not only does it suck, they are only giving me 15-20 hours per week. I was offered a job today working 36-40 hours on a more consistent schedule.
