Applying for another job is not considered 'working' until you accept the offer. It sounds like you have already terminated your employment with UPS. Transferring between companies happens very frequently, when people believe that it will be greener on the other side. Were you terminated or are you looking for a better company? Background checks are for criminal things (like employee theft, etc). Regardless, you should be upfront about your work history.
